Carson Philbin, a 24-year-old YouTube filmmaker from Charlotte, North Carolina, shared a haunting social media post weeks before meeting a tragic fate during a trip to Hawaii.

Just three weeks prior to his untimely demise, Carson Philbin posted an Instagram message, urging his followers to watch his video documenting a challenging mountain trek. He cryptically stated, “I had to carry a 40lb gear bag 34 miles up a mountain but the cameraman never dies.”
In a subsequent post, Philbin expressed optimism about the upcoming year, stating that “2024 is going to be even better.” Little did he know that this optimistic outlook would be cut short.
Philbin’s final adventure took him to the Ka‘ū District in Hawaii, where he and three friends leaped off a cliff at South Point into the water below. However, the group faced overwhelming ocean conditions, leading to a tragic outcome.
Despite local bystanders rescuing three of the friends, Carson Philbin was swept 75 yards offshore and disappeared beneath the surface. His body was later recovered by local fishermen and the Hawaii Fire Department.
Officials caution against diving at South Point, also known as the “Hoist,” as it has claimed multiple lives in recent years. Philbin, accustomed to daring feats like scaling bridges and skydiving for his YouTube content, believed he knew the area well due to his grandparents having a nearby home.
