Dwayne Johnson reveals why he wanted a standalone movie for Black Adam

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair Thursday.

During the session, Johnson admitted that he persuaded Warner Bros to introduce the character of Black Adam in a separate film.

The wrestler turned actor mentioned, ‘When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie. Now that was the goal – so it wasn’t a complete surprise.’

He further continued, ‘But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.’’

The 50-year-old businessman said, ‘It would’ve been fine for Shazam to have two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for Black Adam.’

Johnson added that he made a call to the studio executives and voiced his concerns. He claimed to them that introducing both the characters in the same film is not the best idea for both the characters.

The Jumanji star explained, ‘I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here. It’s very unpopular’ because everybody thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s go make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think that you should make ‘Shazam!,’ make that movie on its own in the tone that you want. And I think we should separate this as well.’

Moreover, Shazam! hit the big screens in 2018.

The film will instantly jump to the introduction of Black Adam and we will gradually learn about what happened to make him a villain.

The motion picture is scheduled to drop in theaters on 21st October 2022.

However, Johnson’s Black Adam and Zachary Levi’s Shazam may most likely cross paths in future films. Furthermore, since Shazam’s sequel titled Shazam! Fury of the God will probably be released later this year.
