Drew Barrymore has taken to her official social media account to fight against tabloids that are claiming she ‘wishes her mother was dead.’

Here is everything you need to know.

Drew Barrymore calls out fake reports for saying she wished her mother dead

Drew Barrymore recently shared a fiery video on her official Instagram account where she spoke against media outlets for mischaracterizing her relationship with her mother.

She said, ‘You know what, to all you tabloids out there, you have been f**ing with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth.’

She continued, ‘I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive.’

The 48-year-old host concluded by saying, ‘Do not twist my words around or ever say that I wished my mother was dead. I have never said that, I never would.’

She stated, ‘In fact, I go on to say that I wish that I never have to live an existence where I would wish that on someone. Because that is sick.’

Besides that, celebrities such as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Heather McMahon, Padma Lakshmi, and Alyssa Milano commended Drew for her response to the misleading headlines in the comment section of her post.

Meanwhile, Drew’s response comes from her original interview with Vulture where she admitted being jealous of friends whose parents died.

At that time she remarked, ‘All their moms are gone, and my mom’s not. And I’m like, Well, I don’t have that luxury. But I cannot wait.’

More about Drew Barrymore’s complicated relationship with her mother

Drew Barrymore has been vocal about the complicated relationship she shares with her mother, Jaid Barrymore.

She rose to fame following her appearance in the blockbuster E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial at the young age of seven.

For the unversed, Jaid blurred the lines between a parent and a friend when she made Drew party alongside her while she was just in elementary school.

Furthermore, Drew’s mother sent her to rehab when she was only 12 years old. She also admitted Drew to a psychiatric ward when she was barely thirteen years old.

Nevertheless, Drew was legally emancipated at the age of 14. Although she financially supports her mother, the Charlie’s Angels star has limited contact with her.
