The controversy surrounding Dr DisRespect began to spiral in June 2024 when former Twitch staffers finally revealed the real reason for his ban: messages he sent to a minor seven years prior. The revelation rocked the gaming community, particularly as the reason behind his 2020 ban had remained a mystery for years.
In his initial post acknowledging the accusations, Dr DisRespect admitted his wrongdoing but also attempted to reassure his fans that he had changed. He promised to return to the streaming world eventually, saying:
