Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm has once again found himself at the center of controversy following fresh allegations from a former Twitch employee. The streamer, who was abruptly banned from Twitch in 2020, is now addressing claims that his removal was due to inappropriate messages to a minor.
Dr Disrespect, once a leading figure on Twitch, faced an unexpected ban four years ago, leaving his fans puzzled and curious about the reason behind it. Although a legal battle ensued between him and Twitch, which concluded two years ago, the details behind his ban remained undisclosed.
New Allegations Surface
The latest twist in this ongoing saga emerged when Cody Conners, an ex-Twitch employee, made allegations on X (formerly Twitter). Conners claimed that an unnamed male streamer had been caught “s***ing a minor” using Twitch’s whispers feature and had planned to “meet up with her at TwitchCon”. He added that those in authority had clear evidence of this interaction, stating, “The powers that be could read in plain text. Case closed, gang.”
Though Conners did not directly name Dr Disrespect, speculation quickly spread across social media. Influencer Jake Lucky further fueled the rumors by explicitly naming Dr Disrespect in connection with the allegations.
Dr Disrespect’s Response
Dr Disrespect promptly responded to these accusations, firmly denying any misconduct. He stated, “I get it, it’s a hot topic but this has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged and they paid out the whole contract.”
Despite his denial, Conners’ claims have prompted several industry insiders to speak up. Rod Breslau, a journalist who was among the first to report on Dr Disrespect’s ban, reaffirmed his stance by posting “I didn’t lie” on X, although he acknowledged Conners was a “secondhand source.”
Journalist Nathan Grayson also commented, indicating that he had heard similar explanations from multiple sources. He emphasized that his sources were not directly involved but had relayed secondhand information. Grayson added that these sources could not provide any concrete documentation or firsthand accounts.
The timing of Conners’ revelations, four years post-ban and two years after the lawsuit resolution, has raised questions. Game artist Del Walker suggested that non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) might be the reason behind the delayed disclosure, pointing out that many NDAs last for four years, coinciding with the timeline of Dr Disrespect’s ban in June 2020.
As the gaming community grapples with these new allegations, Dr Disrespect maintains his innocence, emphasizing the settlement of the case and the absence of any admitted wrongdoing. The debate continues, with fans and industry professionals alike seeking clarity and truth in this convoluted narrative.
