Co-creator of a new psychological thriller TV series Swarm, Donald Glover has recently come under fire for allegations of racism towards black women. According to Glover, Swarm’s star Dominique Fishback’s character Dre was likened to an animal during an interview with Vulture. According to Glover in the Vulture interview, he advised Fishback to think about her character more as an animal than as a person. Swarm was created by Glover and playwright Janine Nabers. The show has gotten positive reviews from the audience. A storm of criticism has erupted online following his comments about Fishback’s character.

People speculated that his comments might be connected to his views on black women, with one person even calling him a pretentious hack. It isn’t the first time Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, has been criticized in this regard. During his 2016 comedy-drama Atlanta, he was criticized for his portrayal of Black women. A pop star called Ni’Jah, whose character is inspired by Beyoncé, is the subject of Swarm. Dominique Fishback plays Dre, an obsessive fan. A grieving Dre feels a great desire to protect her idol due to the loss of her sister. In order to accomplish this, she goes on a cross-country killing spree, killing anyone who shows hatred for her favourite singer.

As A Statement About Swarm Character Dre Goes Viral, Donald Glover Allegations Explained

Donald Glover is facing a fresh wave of accusations that he hates Black women after the release of his new TV show Swarm. An interview with Glover featuring Swarm’s Dominique Fishback has escalated the rumour, which has plagued his career. Several people are sharing snippets of Glover’s interview with Vulture, suggesting the actor dislikes Black women for some reason. The rumour wasn’t dispelled by the answer he gave to his own question when he was interviewed for Interview Magazine in April 2022. Netizens on Twitter expressed their outrage over Glover’s remarks likening Dre’s character to an animal. Some people said the creator wasn’t “beating the allegations,” and others said they appreciated the show, but it was “too bad” that it was made by a racist. As he doesn’t do much press these days, Glover, who is also known as Childish Gambino, decided to interview himself at Atlanta Season 3’s press run. As the fictional back and forth progressed, Glover asked himself what comments were made by Black social media personality and psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson.

During his review of Gambino’s “This Is America” music video, Dr. Umar felt that the inclusion of a “White Queen” dilutes the message. It’s okay for him to talk about the Black Experience, but wanting to share it with a white woman indicates that he doesn’t value it enough, says Dr. Umar. The opinion of Dr. Umar was disagreed with by Donald Glover. His question to himself was pointed: Do you fear Black women? What is the purpose of asking me that? Glover responded to himself. Glover’s fictional interviewer asked I feel like your relationship with them has played a big role in your narrative. Glover, the character being interviewed, responded, “I feel like you’re questioning my blackness. People speculated online after he failed to answer his own question about being afraid of Black women. An article published by Billboard highlighted several Twitter users who criticized Glover for the “ridiculousness” of the interview. Amazon Prime subscribers can stream Swarm, which stars Chloe Bailey, Paris Jackson, Nirine Brown, and Damson Idris.
