Doja Cat has sparked outrage this week after going on a rant against her followers. Some of her ardent fans attempted to obtain a shoutout from the Grammy Award-winning performer, but it did not go well. The 27-year-old slammed a bunch of her ‘kittenz’ followers. “My fans don’t name themselves s**t,” she added in a Threads post that has since been removed. “If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or ‘kittenz,’ you should get off your phone, get a job, and help your parents around the house.” However, the phrase kittenz appears on many social media accounts. One of the group admins inquired what they should do because changing their names would be difficult at this stage.

She instructed them to ‘destroy the entire account’. The criticism has been immediate and severe, and it appears that her followers took to Instagram first. Sites that track famous Instagram accounts have seen Doja’s account lose over 200,000 followers in the last 48 hours. Fans were outraged that she would treat them so poorly when they are the ones who keep her employed. Following their comments, a slew of Doja Cat fan accounts cancelled or disabled their accounts, ostensibly as a massive middle finger to the artist for how she treats her followers.

Following Her Fans’ Criticism, Doja Cat Lost More Than 200,000 Followers

For months, it appears that the singer & rapper has been at conflict with her fans. She infuriated them when she declared her previous two albums, which had drawn many of them to her, were nothing more than “cash grabs,” thereby demeaning those who bought or appreciated them. Doja Cat’s followers, like many other celebrities, have given themselves the moniker Kittenz. They’ve been using it for years, and it first appeared after Doja herself, according to E! News, created a since-deleted poll in 2020 to inquire about them what they wanted to be called, “since I don’t feel morally right pet-naming you guys.” She’s now sounding a different song about the name, taking to her Threads account to chastise her admirers for self-identifying in that way. “If you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or a f—ing ‘Kittenz,’ you’d better get off your phone, find a job, and help your parents out,” she said. Meanwhile, according to Hype Auditor, her anti-fan activities have cost her over 200,000 Instagram followers, as reported by The Daily Mail. Even as she looks to be losing her fan base, Doja is gearing up for a new tour, which will begin on Halloween, and her fourth album, which will be released later this year.

While many fans are voicing their displeasure with the artist, some are hoping that this is all a publicity hoax. One fan even commented that this is Doja in character as “Scarlet”; she’d earlier teased “Scarlet is Here” on Twitter and changed part of her cover art to red on Spotify to go with the song “Paint the Town Red.” Doja Cat recently referred to her last two albums as “cash grabs” that people “fell for,” and her fans are outraged. Thousands of shattered hearts screamed out on social media after the award-winning musician, who has been in the music industry for nearly a decade, condemned her previous two albums. Hot Pink, which she published in 2019, got viral on TikTok in 2020 after the song ‘Say So’ went viral. The album also yielded the songs “Streets,” “Juicy,” and “Like That.” “Planet Her and Hot Pink were cash grabs, and y’all fell for it,” the famed singer tweeted. Now I can go someplace and touch grass with the people I love on an island while you mourn over substandard pop.” The tweet has been viewed over 20 million times, and many are speaking out.
