Dean Stockwell, The Quantum Leap And Dune 1984 Actor Died at 85

The Quantum Leap star, Dean Stockwell died on November 7 in his home due to natural causes. The “Dune” star was 85 at the time of his death. 

The Industry Pays Tribute-

Dean’s was in the Hollywood industry for almost 70 years. During this time he had played some remarkable roles but he gained popularity from the Sci-fi show, “Quantum leap” where he played Admiral Al Calavicci. 

His Quantum Leap co-star, Scott Bakula said, “ (Dean) had the greatest work ethic. He was a breath of fresh air and kept me laughing. He was unique in his determination to make each role his own.”

Director Mark Huestis wrote a tribute on Facebook and said, “Throughout he demonstrated both his versatility and enormous sensitivity, vulnerability, and depth as an actor. I loved him. He will be missed.”

Fans also poured in tributes to the legendary actor. They couldn’t stop praising him while one said- “Then you get older and see him pop up all over and realize he was actually one of the greatest character actors of all time. What a legacy! RIP.”

Bilge Ebiri, the well known filmmaker and journalist said, “RIP Dean Stockwell, a great actor who never met a scene he couldn’t steal.”

Stockwell’s Personal and Professional Life-

Stockwell was born in Los Angeles, California. His father, Harry Stockwell and elder brother Guy Stockwell were also in the film industry as actors. 

He acted in several films as a child, some of which were Gentleman’s Agreement (1947),  The Green Years (1946), Kim ( 1950),  The Arnelo Affair (1947) and  Anchors Aweigh (1945). 

After graduating High school, Stockwell dropped out after studying at The University of California for one year. A few years later, he resumed his acting career. He appeared in films like-Cimarron city, Men of Annapolis, Wagon Train and some others.

His acting career gained velocity after he acted in the Broadway adaption of Compulsion. Dean Stockwell won a Cannes film award for Best Actor in 1959 because of this film. He has also acted in renowned films like Pairs, Texas, Blue Velvet, To Live and Die in L.A. and Dune. 

Besides Quantum Leap, one of the most significant roles of Dean was Brother Cavil in the 2000s reboot of the sci-fi show “Battlestar Galactica”. “The Tony Danza Show” also brought him a lot of praise. 

Stockwell married Milli Perkins (m. 1960; div. 1962) and Joy Marchenko (m. 1981; div. 2004) while he has two kids- Sophia Stockwell and Austin Stockwell.
