Daniel Blake is taking a leave of absence as a marketing executive for Bud Light. It comes after calls to boycott the brand over its partnership with transgender Dylan Mulvaney.

Here is everything you need to know.

Two Bud Light marketing executives leave after calls to boycott

Daniel Blake, Bud Light’s Vice President for Marketing, took a leave of absence on 23rd April in the wake of the public outcry against their collaboration with Dylan Mulvaney.

Moreover, this comes a day after Alissa Heinerscheid, Bud Light’s marketing Vice President, was placed on leave.

In addition, a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch addressed the incident in an email to WSJ.

They wrote, ‘Given the circumstances, Alissa has decided to take a leave of absence which we support… Daniel has also decided to take a leave of absence.’

Besides that, Mayor shared a paid-promotional post on her Instagram account earlier this month. In the picture, we can see her drinking from a memorial.

For the unversed, Mulvaney received the can from the beer giant to celebrate one year of her transitioning and commemorate March Madness.

However, it enraged the brand’s right-wingers and conservative users including Kid Rock and Ben Shapiro.

Also, Heinerscheid has issued a clarification to state that her mission was to improve the company by incorporating inclusivity.

She said, ‘Shifting the tone, it means having a campaign that’s truly inclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different, and appeals to women and men.’

Furthermore, they went on to call for a mass boycott of the company, its parent company as well as its products.

Meanwhile, the reason behind the backlash is supposed because Mulvaney is transgender.

Who is Daniel Blake?

Daniel Blake completed his master’s graduation from the University of Virginia’s School of Business. Additionally, he has been associated with Anheuser-Busch for almost a decade. He joined the company initially as a marketing intern in 2023.

Subsequently, he has accomplishments including managing several brands for Anheuser-Busch such as Stella Artois and Busch.

Besides that, his other achievements include successful advertising campaigns such as the “BUSCHHHHH” Super Bowl commercial. He is also responsible for a campaign that was launched to pay off student debt.

Brendan Whitworth, chief executive officer of Bud Light, responded to the controversy with a lackluster statement last week.

He claimed, ‘We never intended to be a part of a discussion that divides people. We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.’
