DL Hughley is criticizing those who say Chris Rock should have been slapped by Will Smith for making fun of Jada Pinkett Smith, saying he finds the narrative extremely ironic. The comedian attacked CNN’s Candace McDuffie for claiming Chris had it coming after years of targeting Black women with his jokes. He called her an idiot. D.L. claims that Chris isn’t punching down on marginalized women, as Candace claims, but is instead making fun of celebs who take their business out into the streets… everything is fair game. It’s ironic for D.L. … Candace believing the violent slap was justified while the comedic response goes too far, and everyone gets an opinion except for the man who was smacked live on television.

Also supporting Chris Rock is Leslie Jones. Hughley, 60, posted a clip of Rock’s weekend Netflix special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage on Sunday, under which Jones responded scathingly to one commenter. Jones defended Rock, saying, Don’t forget he got slapped in public. Everyone! His kids, his mama, his peers, everyone! How would you handle that, muthaf—-s? This is how he expresses himself as a comedian. He would write a song if he sang. It’s a painful thing to happen.

D.L. Hughley Slams Root Writer Who Believes Comedian Chris Rock Deserves A Slap From Will Smith

Chris Rock is being supported by DL Hughley and Leslie Jones. DL Hughley rejects the narrative that Chris Rock deserved a slap from Will Smith for joking about Jada Pinkett Smith. Hughley, 60, posted a clip from Rock’s live Netflix comedy special Selective Outrage on Sunday, under which Jones responded scathingly to one commenter. At some point in your life, you have to let things go… According to Jones, 55, this is how young brothers are killed on the streets. Reminiscing about the past. Providing a terrible example. Rock was slapped in front of the world, Jones wrote, so don’t forget that! Everyone! His kids, his mom, his peers, everyone! That would be interesting to see how you muthaf—-s handle it! He is a comedian, so this is the way he expresses himself. He would write a song if he sang. This is a painful thing to happen. It seems like you would be righteous if you acted like that! HYPOCRITES, YOU ARE! He said she should sit down and shut up. Candace McDuffie of The Root, who spoke on CNN about Chris having it coming after targeting Black women with his jokes for years, was all twisted, according to the comedian.

Chris isn’t punching marginalized women, as Candace claims, but rather making fun of celebrities who promote their business on the streets, he says. As Rock closed his comedy special, made for Netflix’s first live broadcast at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, he focused on the Oscar slap and applied the special’s title to Will Smith, 54, as he slammed his marriage and the Oscar slap. High-profile individuals such as April Reign, who created the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, criticized his comments, including those directed at Jada Pinkett Smith. Aside from saying Will Smith practiced selective outrage, Rock said, Everyone that really knows knows that I had nothing to do with the Oscars slap. I had no entanglements. He was referring to back in July 2020, when Jada opened up about having an “entanglement” with August Alsina years ago, when she and Will were apart. At the time, Jada said, We have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love after their relationship was repaired.
