When Rapp announced a music tour without first gaining permission from the show’s producers, the issue took an unexpected turn. According to a person close to the situation, “both sides have been working to resolve things.” There are many egos at work.” While there do not appear to be any personal conflicts between Rapp and Kaling, the series creator and showrunner, it has been established that Rapp made the tour announcement without consulting Kaling. The next music tour, which will take Rapp across the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, is set to begin in September. According to reports, Kaling is hesitant to let Rapp leave the series because it would upset the chemistry of the primary four characters. While Rapp is willing to record scenes that will make her leaving easier, Kaling is apparently looking for a method to encourage her to “stay more permanently.” According to sources close to the issue, Rapp will likely finish her episodes early in Season 3, bringing her character’s journey to a close. Rapp, best known for her part in the successful series as openly homosexual student Leighton Murray, took to Instagram to reflect on the relevance of her role and LGBT representation.
