Chris Evans speaks up in defense of Anthony Mackie

Chris Evans has shut down the rumors that he will reprise the iconic role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming project.

This comes after Hollywood Reporter announced that Julius Onah has been roped in to serve as the director for the fourth Captain America film.

The media outlet wrote, ‘It is unclear whether Chris Evans would reprise his role of Steve Rogers, AKA the first Captain America.’

Regardless, the news forced Marvel maniacs to keep their fingers crossed in the hopes that Evans will return as Steve Rogers.

However, the 41-year-old has cleared the ongoing speculations in a recent tweet.

He wrote, ‘Sam Wilson is Captain America.’

The message further confirmed that the Lightyear actor has officially retired from his duties as Captain America.

Evans first picked the red, white, and blue shield in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. He continued to play the part in 10 Marvel films but passed the shield to his MCU friend Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Moreover, Mackie and Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) returned as their respective characters in Disney plus miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The series ends up with Sam finally embracing the responsibilities of Captain America.

Internet users react to Chris Evans’ recent tweet

After Chris Evans’s revelation, several fans took to Twitter to praise the actor.

Some fans were quick to emphasize that no one could replace either Steve Rogers or Evans as the superhero character.

Another tweeted, ‘Well by title, but even if it is Sam or even Bucky it doesn’t matter because Cap is Steve Rogers.’

A different user-added, ‘I’m a Steve Rogers fan till the end.. but Steve has passed the shield to Sam.’

Meanwhile, according to recent reports, the upcoming project might be moving to the pre-production phase. Furthermore, it is expected that the installment will possibly release during Marvel’s Phase 5.

More details about the project will likely be revealed at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con.
