Fans believe that Shawn Mendes’s latest song hints at a split with Camila Cabello

Shawn Mendes dropped his recent single titled, ‘What the Hell Are We Dying For?’ on 9th June. However, the lyrics of the song have led many fans to believe that it is referring to a breakup.

Some of his lyrics read, ‘Smoke in the air, the city’s burnin’ down / I wanna speak, but I don’t make a sound.’

It is referring to the smoke that blanketed New York after wildfires in Canada.

He further sings, ‘Locked in my mind, you’re all I think about / I wanna save us, but I don’t know how.’

Furthermore, the 24-year-old singer got candid about the inspiration behind his song during his interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.\

Mendes revealed that he composed the song when he was struggling to deal with his feelings about his love life.

He said, ‘I was upstate New York and just on the back end of feeling a lot of things about relationships, about my career, about [the] environment.’

He remarked, ‘And I was in the studio and this moment of just deep frustration came over me and I finally started to feel this inspiration come.’
