Controversial internet personality Steven “Boogie2988” Williams recently addressed a significant controversy that has enveloped his online presence. The drama began on July 10, 2024, when Kick streamer Steven “Destiny” Bonnell publicly accused Boogie2988 of fabricating his cancer diagnosis. Destiny asserted that Boogie2988 was “absolutely lying” about his health status, sparking widespread debate and speculation.

The controversy intensified on July 11, 2024, when Destiny confronted Boogie2988 directly during a Lolcow Live podcast livestream. During this tense interaction, Destiny detailed why he believed the 49-year-old had misled his audience about suffering from polycythemia. Following this confrontation, Boogie2988 deactivated his official X account, fueling further rumors and discussions.

On July 16, 2024, Boogie2988 reactivated his X account to directly address the allegations and provide clarity on the situation. He disclosed that he had been undergoing treatment for cancer symptoms for the past two years, emphasizing that there was still “one test left” to determine the specific type of cancer he had.

Boogie2988 explained, “However, for the last two years, I’ve been treating the symptoms of that cancer. Blood tests, medications, and so much more. We still have one test left to do to verify which cancer it is. For now, we have been treating the Polycythemia Vera, which is the cancer they told me that I have. My brother has seen it in my medical charts. My girlfriend and best friend have been present when the doctor spoke of it.”

He shared personal losses to cancer within his family and affirmed that he would never lie about such a serious illness. Acknowledging his mistake, Boogie2988 apologized for prematurely discussing his diagnosis, saying, “Cancer is not something I would ever lie about. But I should have waited for the final tests to be done and not just repeated what my doctor had to say that day. I’m sorry that I ever spoke of it and moving forward, no matter what happens, I will not speak of it publicly.”

Boogie2988 declared the matter closed and vowed to handle his health issues privately in the future: “I consider this a closed matter and now will make sure it remains a private battle that is shared only with my closest loved ones. I’m sorry for those hurt or offended by either the rumors that have floated around or by my actions when I spoke too early about my cancer.”

In the same social media post, Boogie2988 revealed that he is undergoing further tests to confirm his polycythemia vera diagnosis, starting with a colonoscopy. He admitted to panicking when first informed of his condition two years ago and regretted his hasty decision to share the news publicly. He reflected, “We are now doing more tests to confirm the Polycythemia Vera or determine if there is a second cancer present. We are starting with a colonoscopy to see if there is cancer present there, as I’ve shown signs that prostate cancer is present. I was panicked when my doctor told me I had cancer two years ago, and when I was in a vulnerable state, I shared that long before I should have. It was a stupid, stupid thing to do. I should have never jumped the gun like that.”

The unfolding saga surrounding Boogie2988’s health highlights the complex dynamics of online personalities managing personal crises in the public eye, underscoring the delicate balance between transparency and privacy.
