Beanie Feldstein might be recognized for her comedic roles, but she is not joking around about her early exit from Funny Girl.

Beanie Feldstein announces early departure from Funny Girl

Beanie Feldstein took to Instagram this weekend to confirm that she was leaving Broadway’s Funny Girl.

The Golden Globe-nominated actress performed as the main protagonist Fanny Brice in Broadway’s revival. She was originally scheduled to perform through 25th September but will now act her final show on 31st July.

The Booksmart star wrote, Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine, and doing so for the last few months has been a great joy and true honor.’

She added, ‘Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction. I made the extremely difficult decision to step away sooner than anticipated.’

The actress mentioned, ‘I will never forget this experience and from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank every single person who came to the August Wilson for the love and supports you have shown me and our amazing cast and crew.’

She went on to share, ‘The people I have had the great joy of bringing Funny Girl to life with every night, both on and off the stage, are all remarkably talented and exceptional humans and I hope you continue to join them on Henry Street after I depart on July 31st.’

More about Broadway’s Funny Girl

Funny Girl is a semi-biographical film lightly based on the life and career of real-life comedian Fanny Brice. 

The plot follows her rise to prominence and her intense relationship with gambler Nick Arnstein.

Broadway first opened the show in 1964. It was further adapted into a film with Barbra Streisand and Omar Sharif featuring as the lead characters.

Streisand went on to bag an Academy Award for Best Actress for her iconic role.

Moreover, the revived show debuted in April 2022, but, received mixed reviews from the audience. Many viewers believe Beanie Feldstein failed to fill the big shoes left by Streisand.

The musical production included tracks like I’m the Greatest Star, People, Don’t Rain On My Parade and The Music That Makes Me Dance.

Regardless, following Feldstein’s shocking announcement, the official Twitter page of Funny Girl hinted about new castings.

They wrote, ‘exciting casting announcements will be made tomorrow at 1 pm ET.’
