It has been confirmed that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will return for Bad Boys 4. From a script by Chris Bremner, Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah are returning to direct the untitled sequel. It earned over $426 million at the global box office when it was released in 2020 by the directing duo. Smith and Lawrence reunite in 2020’s ‘Bad Boys for Life’, 25 years after the first ‘Bad Boys’ film, in which they reprise their roles as Miami-Dade detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence announced the upcoming movie on social media on Tuesday morning by posting a reunion video with the caption, IT’S ABOUT TIME! As Smith played an excerpt from Nelly’s Shake Ya Tailfeather, a song that was prominently featured on the Bad Boys II soundtrack, he announced I’ve got an announcement…I’m gonna give you a hint. When Will Smith arrives at Lawrence’s house, he immediately asks, Is it about that time? The Bad Boys are for life, baby! he says, highlighting the duo’s catchphrase and reinforcing the “For life” as they acknowledge the title of the third film wasted the pun they could have used for the fourth.

It should not have been called that,” Smith quips. The first Bad Boys film was released in 1995, marking Michael Bay’s directorial debut. The film also features lifelong friends Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence) who are on a quest to uncover who stole $100 million of Mafia heroin. At the global box office, the movie made over $141.4 million against a budget of $19 million. Bad Boys II grossed $273 million worldwide in 2003 when Bay returned to direct the film. As one of the last blockbusters prior to the pandemic, ‘Bad Boys for Life’ earned $426.5 million at the worldwide box office shortly after the threequel hit theatres. Thus, Jerry Bruckheimer, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone will executive produce the yet-to-be-titled sequel, along with Smith for Westbrook, Doug Belgrad and Chad Oman.
