Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna recently came under fire after The Washington Post reported that she might have fabricated her Jewish heritage.
Here is everything you need to know.
Anna Paulina Luna’s parents deny her Jewish heritage claims
GOP Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida’s 13th congressional district talked to Jewish Insider last November.
During the interview, she continued to defend Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who was accused of delivering some anti-Semitic comments.
Moreover, Luna mentioned that Greene would not have chosen to endorse her if she had an anti-Semitic mindset.
She added, ‘I was raised as a Messianic Jew by my father. I am also a small fraction of Ashkenazi. If she were anti-Semitic, why did she endorse me?’

Anna Paulina Luna appears to have lied that her father was a convict (nope), that she suffered a home invasion at 4 am (nope), and that her father was Jewish (nope, he was Catholic – and *his* father fought in WW2 – for the Nazis).
However, Luna’s relatives talked to The Washington Post where they revealed that her father, George Mayerhofer, was Catholic.
Meanwhile, Luna’s mother, Monica, told the outlet that her husband was a Christian. But he embraced ‘the Messianic faith.’
She stated that Luna buried her father as per Jewish customs and rituals.
Monica said, ‘He eventually got clean and started attending a messianic Jewish church in Orange County.’
In addition, the immigration records obtained by The Washington Post revealed that Luna’s paternal grandfather Heinrich Mayerhofer immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1954. Furthermore, he identified himself as a Roman Catholic.
Additionally, Luna’s family members claim that Heinrich was a member of the Nazis regime when he was in his teens in the 1940s.
Besides that, other reports suggest that Luna called herself ‘white’ and not of Hispanic origin in 2015 when she was first registered to vote.
But she filed a petition to change her last name from Mayerhofer to Luna in 2019 when she re-registered to vote in Washington State.

Netizens compare Anna Paulina Luna and George Santos
Many internet users compared Anna Paulina Luna to George Santos after her Jewish heritage came under the scanner.
If you didn’t know, Santos’ fraud CV scandal disclosed that his mother was Jewish while his grandparents hid from the Nazis.
However, he later went on to mention that he was brought up by a Catholic. But frequently jokingly said that he was ‘Jew-ish.’
A user wrote, ‘Do you know about a Republican freshman that lied about being Jewish in order to win their seat? No, I don’t mean George Santos. I’m talking about Anna Paulina Luna.’
