André 3000 Announces Expanded ‘New Blue Sun’ Tour Across North America
4 min readThis fall, André 3000 will once again captivate audiences with his mesmerizing flute performances as he announces an extended ‘New Blue Sun’ tour. Starting at the legendary Orpheum Theater in New Orleans this September, the tour will cover more North American cities than before.
For those who missed his earlier tour this year, this is a second chance to experience the magic of André 3000’s flute-driven music. The tour will now reach beyond the initial cities of NYC, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, bringing the unique sound of ‘New Blue Sun’ to a broader audience.
Released in November, ‘New Blue Sun’ is a purely instrumental album co-produced by the iconic Carlos Niño. It features contributions from a host of talented musicians including Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, Deantoni Parks, Diego Gaeta, Matthewdavid, V.C.R, Jesse Peterson, and Mia Doi Todd. The album made a significant impact, debuting in the top 10 of several Billboard charts such as New Age Albums and Top Alternative Albums. Additionally, it set a Hot 100 record with the 12-minute, 20-second track “I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time.”
For this tour, André 3000 will be accompanied by Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau, and Surya Botofasina with Deantoni Parks, ensuring a live performance that promises to be as enchanting as the album itself. The musician, known for his innovative and interactive concerts, continues to tour internationally and recently wowed audiences as a special guest performer at the Roots Picnic.
The North American leg of the tour begins on September 19 in New Orleans and includes stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and more. André will perform at prestigious venues such as L.A.’s Greek Theatre and Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Friday, June 28 at 10 a.m. local time.
A review of André’s New York City show last year by Rolling Stone praised his ability to create an “interactive, free-flowing, concert experience.” The same publication also described his flute album as an “87-minute sound world you’ll love getting lost in.” Following the release of ‘New Blue Sun’, André collaborated with Kamasi Washington on “Dream State,” further cementing his reputation as a versatile and boundary-pushing artist.
Before embarking on his North American tour, André will perform at several music festivals, including Toronto Jazz Fest and Montréal Jazz Fest in Canada. He will also head to Europe, with performances at Paris’ La Gaité Lyrique and the Netherlands’ North Sea Jazz Fest in July.
The 26-date tour will traverse cities such as Dallas, San Diego, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Brooklyn, Boston, and Washington, DC, before concluding on November 14 in Atlanta. Fans can purchase tickets starting June 28 via Ticketmaster.
