Amy Schumer discusses her struggle with endometriosis

Amy Schumer gets candid about her fight with endometriosis during an intimate interview with Dr. David Agus.

Moreover, the conversation is a part of Paramount+ new original docu-series titled, ‘The Checkup with Dr. David Agus.’ In addition, the 30-minute episode will air on 13th December Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Schumer talked about the symptoms that she faced while dealing with the disorder. She also tried to address the stigma associated with periods.

She said, ‘I’ve been in so much pain, you know, my whole life — not just the week of my period; it’s [also] during ovulation.’

Schumer went on to note that she began feeling pain during the start of her period which supposedly has been going on for decades.

Furthermore, she added, ‘I would hopefully get a good week a month where I wasn’t in pretty significant pain, [but] still trying to achieve, still trying to go through life. It’s been really difficult.’

Besides that, the 41-year-old comedian underwent a hysterectomy and appendectomy in September 2021 to help her treat the condition.

Schumer stated, ‘It’s really a lonely, lonely disease.’

The Grammy-nominated actress continued, ‘It just felt like someone lifted this veil that had been over me. And I just felt like a different person, like, a new mom.’

Consequently, she pointed out, ‘If the trade-off is that you will have a little scar on your belly button and one right next to it… I think scars are cool.’

Schumer took to her Instagram account last year to urge females to listen to their bodies if they are experiencing irregular aches and pains during their menstrual cycles.

More about endometriosis

The Mayo Clinic has described endometriosis as a disorder where, ’tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus.’

Meanwhile, the disorder usually includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes as well as the tissue lining the pelvis.

Moreover, endometriosis can cause unbearable cramping during menstruation. Also, it might be painful during intercourse, urination, and bowel movements.
