Recently, a body-cam video has been released by the authorities in the US city of Minneapolis. In that video, the incident of Wednesday is captured where the police shot a 22-year-old man Amir Locke. Earlier, in 2020, at the same place, George Floyd was murdered.

All About the incident

The video was released on Thursday. Cops have reported to the media that the person who died during the encounter was Amir Locke, an African-American. Officers visited the spot after receiving a search warrant for the apartment in which Amir Locke was living. Amir Locke was shot by the US Police after he pulled his gun from beneath the blanket.

The total time gap between the entry of Cops in Amir Locke’s apartment and he got shot was less than 10 seconds. Amir Locke was admitted to the hospital and then the doctors announced that he is dead. As per sources, the search warrant that the cops received did not include Amir Locke’s name. But Amir Locke was connected to the suspect of their ongoing investigation of a homicide.

According to the family’s attorneys, the victim had no past criminal records and he “legally possessed a firearm.”
The mother of Amir Locke said to the media that “we want justice for our son.” The video released on Thursday shows an officer opening the door with the keys and the whole group entered the apartment while shouting “Police, search warrant!”

Amir Locke’s Family Lawyer’s Statement

Amir Locke was on the couch when he started pulling his gun beneath the blanket and immediately the cops fired on him. Ben Crump is the lawyer for the family who has earlier represented multiple black victims of police violence. He has represented George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, whose murder had become a nationwide protest in 2020.

On Friday morning, along with the family of Amir Locke, Ben Crump is going to hold a virtual press conference, according to sources.

With context to George Floyd and Breonna Taylor’s murder by Minneapolis police officers, Ben Crump released a statement. He said, “like the case of Breonna Taylor, the tragic killing of Amir shows a pattern of no-knock warrants having deadly consequences for Black Americans. We will continue pushing for answers in this case so that Amir’s grieving family can get the closure they deserve.”

Sources have confirmed that prior to the Minneapolis events on Wednesday a conversation was conducted on the police radio. It suggests that the incident that took place at Amir Locke’s apartment by the cops was a planned no-knock entrance.
