Amber Heard’s former connection with Tasya Van Ree has garnered significant notice amid Johnny Depp’s defamation trial for her 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Heard countersued Depp for $100 million after Depp sued him for $50 million.
In court, the actress accused Johnny Depp of s*xual assault. She claimed that he had threatened to murder her on several occasions. Dr. Dawn Hughes, Johnny Depp’s psychologist, appeared to back up Amber Heard’s claims of being subjected to intimate partner violence at the hands of the Aquaman star on May 5.
The judicial drama involving charges of abuse from both parties developed. Some netizens pointed out how Depp’s exes had spoken out in his favor, while Heard supposedly had a history of violence against her ex-partner, Tasya Van Ree.
Amber Heard’s previous relationship with Tasya Van Ree and their “marriage”
Since 2008, Amber Heard and Tasya Van Ree have been said to have been dating. They were in a domestic partnership, however they split up in late 2011 or early 2012 when Van Ree made certain charges. Heard apparently began her tumultuous romance with Johnny Depp a year after they split up.
According to an exclusive article from the UK’s Mirror in 2016, Heard and Van Ree married when the actress was 22 years old. Gay marriages were not permitted in the United States at the time. As a result, Heard changed her name to Amber Van Ree and took her partner’s surname. When she filed for divorce from Depp, the news of her legally-documented name change initially made headlines (circa 2016).

The couple was also still together when New York’s historic same-sex marriage bill. It legalized gay marriages, was approved, according to the publication. Amber Heard had recently come out as bisexual. She was celebrating the legalization of gay marriages in New York at the time.
Tasya Van Ree has been accused of being abused by Amber Heard
Tasya Van Ree, 46, is a photographer and painter. The first claims of abuse against Amber Heard surfaced in 2009, when the actress was accused of assault following an incident at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. In the airport, Heard and Van Ree were reportedly bickering when the former allegedly hit the latter. The Port of Seattle Police temporarily detained Heard, but Van Ree claimed that she had been falsely accused.
Johnny Depp had accused Amber Heard of being abusive towards her former boyfriends during their divorce hearing. Depp discussed the same effect, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.
While Johnny Depp claimed the previous allegations, there has been no serious report of similar accusations from other sources.
