Why is Alessandro Michele leaving Gucci?

According to Womenswear Daily, Alessandro Michele decided to step down from his position after he failed to meet the company’s request to ‘initiate a strong design shift.’

Moreover, the report stated that Gucci’s parent Kering’s chairman, Francois-Henri Pinault was looking to revamp the fashion house.

However, Michele has issued ‘different perspectives’ as the reason behind his exit.

If you didn’t know, Gucci announced Michele as the creative director back in January 2015. The announcement came days after he led a creative team for a menswear show following the predecessor’s hasty departure.

Besides that, Michele led Gucci campaigns for celebrities such as Dakota Johnson, Harry Styles, and Lana Del Ray. In addition, he dressed Billie Eilish, Florence Welch, Jared Leto, and the Italian rock band Maneskin.

In the meantime, Kering is yet to unveil Michele’s replacement but did hint that new changes lie ahead in the future of the fashion house.

Moreover, the press release of the conglomerate suggested that the design office of Gucci will overlook the brand’s output until the announcement of a ‘new creative director.’
