Queen frontman Adam Lambert would like everyone to tone down the hostility towards Harry Styles following ‘Queerbating’ accusations.

Here is everything you need to know.

Adam Lambert defends Harry Styles following accusations about ‘Queerbating’

Adam Lambert sat down with the British outlet iNews for an interview earlier this week. Moreover, he talked about the ‘queerbaiting’ accusations aimed at Harry Styles and other musicians.

He simply addressed the rumors by saying that he believes that they do not hold much water.

Lambert said, ‘I get the concern. But OK, so if you’re a gay man and you like Harry Styles, do you like him because he has a rainbow flag on stage or because you like his songs? Is the rainbow flag not just icing on the cake?’

While the American Idol runner-up acknowledged the queerbating ‘concern’ among people, the accusations seemingly are, ‘almost underestimating the intelligence of gay people.’

Lambert went on to rhetorically say, ‘We’re not that gullible, are we? I think people just like to find things to b*tch about.’

What does ‘Queerbating’ means?

‘Queerbating’ is a term that is generally used to describe films and television series that imply LGBTQ+ storylines but are not actualized.

For instance, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done with Tom Hiddleston’s character Loki.

Meanwhile, the phrase is used in recent years to accuse celebrities of using queer aesthetics to manipulate fans and boost sales despite not publicly being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Harry Styles addresses the queerbaiting accusation

Harry Styles opened up about accusations he has faced relating to his love life during an interview with Rolling Stone in 2022.

He simply explained that he has never ‘publicly been with anyone,’ while many fans believe that has, ‘only publicly been with women.’

Styles added, ‘If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or something.’

The Grammy winner also shared the reason why he prefers not to label his sexuality during an interview with Better Homes & Gardens in 2022.

He said, ‘I’ve been really open with it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience; it’s mine.’

Besides that, he revealed, ‘The whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn’t matter, and it’s about not having to label everything, not having to clarify what boxes you’re checking.’
