Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles Episode 9 begins with Ruri thinking about whether someone would wait for Rio at the spot or not. When she asked Rio, he told her that there was someone who considered him as a brother. However, they are not real siblings. Rio came across the girls the next morning and he was talking to Ruri.

Seeing this, the girls speculated why Ruri was not calling Rio Lord Rion. Later, when Sayo came, she asked Ruri to call Rio with some respect. Whereas, Rio had asked Ruri not to be formal with him. Then, Ruri told the girls that she and Rio lived in the same house and Rio has himself asked her not to be formal. To this Rio agreed and the girls were convinced. Remembering the old days, Sayo tried to get close to Rio.

In the village, everyone worked very hard. The men used to go hunting whereas, the ladies remained at houses completing the sewing of clothes. Ruri showed Rio the crops she grew. Rio asked her to help others as well. Everyone was impressed with the way Rio was doing things but they didn’t know that he was going to leave soon.

Afterward, Rio went to help Sayo as she was doing work alone. He asked Sayo to supervise everything and teach the work to others as well. Sayo was confused at what he was saying. Then Rio told her that he was going to leave this village and in his absence, she would have to supervise things. This was a shocker for Sayo which broke all her dreams to stay with Rio forever. Tears started shedding from her eyes but she said it was just dirt. Then, Ruri came and joined them. But Sayo left as she never expected this.
