ABC’s talk show ‘The View’ featured another controversial episode from Whoopi Goldberg. The episode, Whoopi began with a documentary by Anna Nicole Smith that was on Netflix. Afterwards, she was candid about the format of ‘American Idol’, even calling it the ‘downfall of society’. During the show’s discussion of Netflix’s recent documentary about Anna Nicole Smith’s final days, Goldberg claimed that people are apt to view such programming because of their judgmental nature. ‘Basketball Wives,’ ‘Housewives,’ all the Bravo shows make you believe you’re doing something wrong because you’re living your life.

It’s because these shows make people feel better that they watch them, Goldberg explained. It seems that we love watching stuff to judge people, as a society. It originally aired on Fox from 2002-2016 but was revived on ABC in 2018 with new judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan replacing Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. While American Idol airs on the same network as The View, Goldberg ignored the producer’s subtle warning, saying we have become “amuck” with judging other people since American Idol.

What @whoopi said about “American Idol” being the downfall of American civility? What the heck!?, another person added. A user commented, Wow, ABC’s “American Idol”? Another wrote, So #AuntyWhoopi thinks letting the public be involved in choosing things (music, film) is the death of our society? I’m amazed. I think we should schedule some time to talk to Aunty privately.. That sounds crazy to me. The show is called American Idol.
