The 26-year-old, Scotland International Rugby player named Siobhan Cattigan has died suddenly with an unclear cause of death. Scotland Police has suggested rugby star’s death as non-suspicious.

Who is Siobhan Cattigan?

Siobhan Cattigan was born on April 11, 1995, in Stirling, Scotland. Cattigan is a Scottish rugby player aka “Shibby”. Her father was the team coach and a player at the club. Cattigan had a passion for rugby from a young age. She showed an early interest in the sport at the age of 5 when Cattigan joined McLaren Minis. Cattigan had a personal connection or a strong connection to both rugby and that club as a whole, as her father was the team coach. Cattigan stopped playing rugby at the age of thirteen during high school. Cattigan went to the University of Stirling and started to play Rugby again at the age of 19.

At the age of 22, Cattigan joined the Scottish Rugby pathway squad in 2017. Next year in 2018, Cattigan made her international debut in Women’s Six Nations for Scotland, playing against Wales. Cattigan made 19 appearances throughout her career for Scotland. Cattigan’s final appearance for Scotland was in September 2021 in Rugby World Cup Qualifier.

Siobhan Cattigan has been a vocal advocate for many female players. She revealed she was forced to leave the sport because of the sexist abuse at school time. In her school, Cattigan was bullied for being the only girl on the school rugby team and was called ‘manly’.

Cattigan Tragic Demise

The tragic news of Cattigan’s demise was announced by her club, Stirling County on Tuesday evening, November 30. Siobhan Cattigan died at a very young age on Friday, November 26. Scottish Rugby has been mourning the loss of such an International rugby player. Cattigan had a good long history of rugby.

The tribute is being paid throughout the whole day by the members of the Rugby community. Scottish rugby has stated to provide ongoing support to the most affected person by the tragic demise of Cattigan. Scottish Rugby sent their thoughts and prayers to Siobhan’s family and her close ones at this difficult time. Scotland and Stirling County are saddened to hear such a piece of heartbreaking news. The Scotland police have suspected her death as non-suspicious. The reason behind Siobhan’s death is still not clear. It is a saddening thing for Scotland Rugby to lose such a great and stronger player.

Siobhan Cattigan was also called ‘Shibby’. Stirling County expressed that Shibby will be hugely missed by everyone in the club as she was a central part of the County for the development of women’s rugby and inspiration to the girls in the youth section.
