On September 14, 2018, James Allan made a discovery and informed first responders about it over the phone. In the basement of their Tecumseh, Michigan house, the ex-resident claimed to have discovered his wife, Amy Allan, hanging from the ceiling.
After autopsy reports showed that Amy died as a result of an incident with her husband James Allan when the latter tried to suffocate her, what at first appeared to be suicide was subsequently confirmed to be a homicide.
Amy was believed to be dead when emergency personnel arrived at the site until discovered a faint pulse. She was taken in a hurry to a hospital close by, but it was in vain. According to reports, she died there as a result of her injuries. James Allan was charged with the murder after being implicated in various testimony, autopsy records, and evidence from the crime scene. He was subsequently declared guilty of second-degree murder by the jury.

When James Allan was brought before the court, he entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. He maintained his innocence in his wife Amy Allan’s murder. The prosecution’s case is that after the defendant allegedly choked Amy with his bare hands at a meeting. He planned the elaborate suicide scheme to fool the police. He finally became entangled in his own web of falsehoods, though.
After hearing various witnesses and going through the autopsy results, the jury ultimately determined that James was guilty of second-degree murder. He was given a 45-year prison sentence almost three years later, in 2021. There was the requirement that he serves at least 20 years in prison before being eligible for parole. James will therefore be eligible for an early release in 2040 while still being held in the St. Louis Correctional Facility in Saint Louis, Michigan.
Why was James Allan found guilty during the murder trial of his wife Amy Allan?
After making a panicked call, James Allan’s calm and unusual behavior while emergency personnel arrived at the scene originally sparked suspicions. When officials got on the scene, he was reportedly already administering CPR and attempting to revive Amy Allan.
The fact that the electric line around Amy’s neck wasn’t tight enough to make her unconscious was disclosed in the autopsy findings. It increased the suspicion. When detectives began accusing her spouse, he was ultimately taken into custody in Ocala, Florida.
James was the one who first proposed the suicide scenario, and he maintained it throughout the trial. He allegedly also asserted that his wife had a history of alcohol abuse, which frequently led to bipolar behavior. Their marriage, which on the surface seemed perfect, turned out to be less than ideal, as further investigation and the trial revealed. In court, the prosecution contended that James Allan choked Amy until she was rendered unconscious after an incident with her. They also argued that James was an oppressive and violent husband.
The jury found James Allan guilty of second-degree murder in his wife’s murder case. Following a two-week trial that included numerous testimony from trial participants who were both directly and indirectly engaged. The defendant maintained his innocence up until the very end. But he was nonetheless given a sentence of more than 40 years in prison, with the possibility of parole in later years.
