Renowned British Actor, Antony Sher, recently passed away of cancer, leaving his family and fans deeply devastated. He was diagnosed with the illness on 10th September 2021 and passed away on 2nd December 2021.

Antony was a talented actor and had even worked as a writer and theatre director. He also performed in his cousin Ronal Harwood’s play “Mahler’s Conversation” in the year 2001. Sher was deeply touched by the play and stated “the theme of a composer renouncing his religion for his work mirrored his own identity difficulties.”

Who was Antony Sher?

Sir Antony Sher KBE was born to Lithuanian-Jewish businessman Emmanuel and his wife Margery Sher. He was born in Cape Town in South Africa. He was a cousin of the writer, Ronald Harwood, and grew up in the Sea Point district in New York.

Antony loved acting and spent most of his time in the United Kingdom and became a British citizen. He also went to audition for the Central School of Speech and Drama and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in the year 1968 after completing his mandatory military duty.

Antony then went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1982. He has played a variety of roles, performed in film and television, and also worked as a writer and theatre director.

Antony has received the Laurence Olivier Award two times and has been nominated for it four times. He is a legend of his time and deeply loved by family and friends.

Antony was one of the first to have a homosexual relationship as he committed to the director, Gregory Doran, in 2005. They then got married on December 30, 2015, following a civil relationship of little over ten years.

Antony was extremely talented and experimented with his talents all the time. He made a net worth of around $ 100,000 to $ 500,000 USD. Most of his income was earned from his successful career as an actor.

Antony Sher’s Cause of Death

Antony died on December 2nd, 2021, from the fatal illness of cancer. He was diagnosed on September 10th, 2021. Even after being nursed properly his situation didn’t seem to get any better. Due to this, his long-time husband, Gregory Doran, decided to leave the Royal Shakespeare Company and care for him.

But even after intensive care, Antony could not be saved. His demise has not just been difficult for his family but also for the fans and the acting industry.
