Here is everything you need to know.

The Guinness World Records names The Weeknd as the World’s Most Popular Artist

The Guinness World Records aka GWR announced on Monday that The Weeknd is statistically the most popular musician on the planet.

In addition, the organization extended the honor to the Canadian singer after studying his Spotify data along with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The Blinding Lights singer also holds the record for being the first musician in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.

Meanwhile, GWR reported that The Weeknd also had the most monthly listeners on Spotify, raking up 111.4 million.

The Weeknd defends the HBO series, The Idol

The Weeknd has been making headlines for his new HBO series, The Idol after a debate with music magazine Rolling Stone.

The publication said that the project had ‘gone wildly, disgustingly off the rails.’

Hence, the 33-year-old artist was urged to speak out in defense of the show.

The Weeknd clapped back at the report by posting a video where he criticizes Rolling Stone magazine for being ‘irrelevant.’

The Starboy artist outlined the post with a caption that read, ‘@rollingstone did we upset you?’

Besides that, HBO has also released a statement to deny the claims made in the article.

For the unversed, the report focused on the issue of why the show’s original director, Amy Seimetz, left the series. Subsequently, they centred around why certain episodes were removed from the show.

They claimed that The Weeknd allegedly had an issue with The Idol turning out to have too much ‘female perspective.’

They wrote, ‘The creators and producers of The Idol have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs.’

Additionally, they continued, ‘The initial approach on the show and production of the early episodes. Unfortunately, did not meet HBO standards so we chose to make a change.’

The statement further read, ‘Throughout the process, the creative team has been committed to creating a safe, collaborative, and mutually respectful working environment.’

It added, ‘Last year, the team made creative changes. They felt were in the best interest of both the production and the cast and crew. We look forward to sharing The Idol with audiences soon.’
