A viral rumor claiming that pop superstar Taylor Swift is considering leaving the United States has been circulating widely on social media, sparking concern among her fans. The rumor originated from a satirical Facebook page, leading some to believe that Swift was planning a permanent move abroad. The speculation gained traction following Swift’s public endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, but is there any truth to it?

Where the Rumor Started

On September 19, 2024, the rumor began spreading after the SpaceX Fanclub Facebook page posted a collage of Taylor Swift alongside the Statue of Liberty. The caption on the image read, “Taylor Swift Is Considering Leaving the U.S. Permanently: ‘What Did I Do Wrong?’” This post quickly garnered attention, amassing over 2.1 thousand reactions and more than 1.7 thousand comments in a short span.

However, a closer look at the page reveals that it is a satirical account. The Facebook bio explicitly states, “We post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real.” Moreover, a pinned comment on the post itself clarifies that the page does not deal in factual news, and the content is meant for entertainment purposes only. This makes it clear that the rumor was never intended to be taken seriously.

The Role of the Satirical Website

The satirical website Esspots further fueled the rumor by publishing a fictional story claiming that Swift had been contemplating leaving the U.S. due to the backlash she received after endorsing Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. The article claimed that Swift told her friends, “Maybe it’s time to go,” and alleged that the pop star was feeling overwhelmed by the criticism she faced for her political stance. The report painted a picture of a disillusioned Taylor Swift, questioning her place in the country that made her famous.

However, much like the Facebook post, this story is entirely fabricated. Esspots, a site known for publishing satirical content, made no attempt to present the information as real news. In fact, it was created to entertain, not inform.

The Kamala Harris Endorsement

The rumor seems to have gained momentum following Taylor Swift’s public endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming November 2024 elections. On September 11, Swift took to her Instagram to declare her support for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. In the post, she stated, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

While Swift’s endorsement of a political figure certainly sparked debate and garnered both support and criticism, there is no indication that she is planning to leave the country. In fact, Swift has not commented on the viral rumor at all.

Social Media Reactions

As the rumor spread, fans took to social media to express their concern and confusion. Some were quick to debunk the claims, pointing out that the original post was from a satirical page. One user wrote, “There’s no way Taylor Swift is leaving the U.S. just because of political backlash. People need to stop spreading misinformation.”

Another social media user added, “I knew that post was fake the moment I saw it. People should really fact-check before believing everything they read online.”

In summary, there is no truth to the claim that Taylor Swift is planning to leave the United States permanently. The rumor originated from a satirical Facebook page and a fabricated article, both of which clearly state that their content is not based on real events. While Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris did stir some controversy, it has not led her to consider moving abroad.

As with any viral claim, it’s important to verify the source before accepting it as fact. In this case, Taylor Swift remains in the U.S., focused on her music and political advocacy, and there is no indication that she is planning to leave anytime soon.
