The streaming community is in an uproar after Dr Disrespect, real name Guy Beahm, revealed that his permanent ban from Twitch in 2020 was due to messaging a minor on the platform in 2017. This shocking admission has sparked widespread condemnation from fellow streamers, who are expressing their dismay and disappointment across social media.
Dr Disrespect’s suspension from Twitch has been shrouded in mystery for four years. Recently, Beahm broke his silence, claiming the messages were “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate” but insisted they were “nothing more.” Despite his explanation, many prominent figures in the streaming world are not standing by him.
Kai Cenat, one of Twitch’s top personalities, unfollowed Dr Disrespect during a live stream, visibly shocked by Beahm’s lengthy statement. Ninja also weighed in, suggesting that the severity of the situation was significant enough for Dr Disrespect’s own game studio to sever ties with him.
QTCinderella, another Twitch streamer, didn’t hold back in her criticism. She responded sharply to Beahm’s previous criticism of her event, the Streamer Awards, with a biting retort. When Dr Disrespect derided her awards show in 2022, QT shot back, “Imagine flirting with a minor,” highlighting the gravity of the recent revelations.
British YouTuber KSI expressed his disappointment, stating, “This makes me so sad, man. One of my inspirations talking to a minor inappropriately kmt. You have a wife and kids. Do better.” Similarly, YouTube streamer Valkyrae and Twitch star Pokimane both responded with brief but scathing remarks, tweeting “Dr Disgusting” and “Yuck,” respectively.
TimTheTatMan, a longtime friend of Beahm, shared his conflicted feelings in a video, describing the situation as “absolutely insane.” He stated, “If what he is saying, where he said that he was messaging a minor and it would sometimes teeter on inappropriate — if he knew that was a minor, and those were the messages being sent, I cannot support that.”
YouTube star MoistCritikal drew a stark comparison to Chris Hansen’s ‘To Catch a Predator,’ saying, “Confirming messaging a minor inappropriately but saying there wasn’t any real intent is almost verbatim what people used to say to Chris Hansen.” NICKMERCS also joined the chorus of criticism, labeling Beahm’s actions as “inexcusable” and “unacceptable.”
The fallout from Dr Disrespect’s admission has left the streaming community in a state of shock and disgust. Despite the intense backlash, Dr Disrespect has announced his intention to return to streaming. Whether his career can withstand this storm remains to be seen, but the damage to his reputation among peers and fans is undeniable.
