On November 15, Quincy Brown shared a touching throwback photo on Instagram, paying tribute to his late mother, Kim Porter. The image shows a young Quincy sitting in a toy car beside his mom, with a heartfelt caption that read, “I miss you every day,” followed by a heart emoji. However, it was the other part of the caption that caught fans’ attention: “Here’s a rare photo of me with my mom and dad.” The so-called “dad” in question was Diddy, who has been a father figure to Quincy since he was a child. Noticeably absent from the photo and post was any reference to Al B. Sure, Quincy’s biological father.
This subtle shade comes as tensions between Quincy and Al B. Sure have been at an all-time high in 2024. The strained father-son relationship has been on public display for years. Back in January, Al B. Sure sparked controversy with a cryptic Instagram post that appeared to criticize Diddy’s parenting. “Nothing breaks a dad more than seeing his love for his kids turned into a weapon against him,” he wrote. However, the comments quickly turned on him, with users calling out Sure for being an absentee father. Quincy had previously aired his grievances in an open letter to Al B. Sure in 2019, accusing him of being largely absent during his upbringing.
Despite the ongoing friction, Quincy Brown insists that he maintains a relationship of sorts with his biological father. During a recent appearance on the “Lip Service” podcast with Angela Yee, Quincy shed light on their complicated dynamic. “He tends to, like, try and do, like, the ‘dad thing’ a lot,” Quincy shared. “But it’s like, that’s not really where we’re at in life. Like, we’re homies more than anything.” This candid admission indicates that while they may not have a traditional father-son relationship, they still have some level of connection.
Adding another layer to the drama, Al B. Sure previously made headlines in 2022 when he implied that Diddy was somehow responsible for putting him in a coma. Though the claim was vague, it certainly added fuel to the ongoing feud between him and Quincy. Meanwhile, Quincy Brown remains steadfast in his loyalty to Diddy, honoring the man who he feels truly stepped up as a father figure in his life.
