Olivia Munn, the renowned actress, has recently disclosed that she underwent a full hysterectomy in April, amidst her ongoing battle with breast cancer. In a profile published by Vogue, Olivia Munns hared, “I have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.”

This significant decision was deemed the best course of action for her, as her doctor recommended halting the production of estrogen in her body. Luminal B breast cancer, the type she was diagnosed with, feeds and grows on estrogen, and stopping its production could prevent the cancer from recurring.

The 43-year-old actress expressed that the decision, though challenging, was crucial for her to be present for her family. She shared her friends’ attempts to comfort her, saying, “Malcolm’s not going to remember this. Don’t worry.” However, she emphasized, “It’s his childhood, but it’s my motherhood, and I don’t want to miss any of these parts if I don’t have to.”

This surgery marks the fifth in Munn’s cancer journey, having previously undergone a full double mastectomy, a lymph node dissection, reconstructive surgery, and a nipple delay.

Before her hysterectomy, Olivia Munn, who welcomed her son Malcolm with John Mulaney in November 2021, was taking Lupron to suppress estrogen in her body. However, the drug’s side effects led to debilitating exhaustion, keeping her bedridden. She poignantly shared, “If you asked Malcolm, ‘Where does daddy work?’ He’d run to his desk, and if you asked him, ‘Where does mommy work?’ He’d point to my bed.”

In the interview, Olivia Munn also revealed that she froze her eggs for the third time, having done so previously at ages 33 and 39. She and Mulaney discussed their desire to continue growing their family, but were uncertain if she would need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation.

In March, Munn announced her breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent double mastectomy. Despite testing negative for the BRCA gene and receiving a clear mammogram, her doctor calculated her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score at 37 percent. An MRI later diagnosed her with luminal B cancer in both breasts, an aggressive and fast-moving type of cancer. Olivia Munn

Throughout her journey, Munn has expressed gratitude towards her family, friends, and Mulaney. The couple, who have been together for three years, made their red carpet debut in January. Munn’s courage and openness about her battle with cancer continue to inspire many.
