Metallica Pays Tribute to Devoted Fan Who Passed Away at Their Edmonton Concert

Metallica, the iconic heavy metal band, is grieving the loss of a devoted fan who tragically passed away during their concert in Edmonton, Canada, on August 23rd. The band, known for its close connection with its fanbase, shared a heartfelt message on social media on August 28th, honoring the fan affectionately known as “Viking.”

In their tribute, Metallica expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Friday night, August 23rd, in Edmonton, we lost a Metallica family member at the show. He died due to health conditions. Leaving the earthly body and onto the next adventure. Very sad when death happens, but we’re touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful, time with us.”

The band continued by extending their condolences to Viking’s loved ones: “Our condolences to the family and friends of Lorne ‘Viking.’ With Love and Respect, Metallica.” Their words reflected the deep respect and affection they felt for the fan who had clearly left a significant mark on their community.

The tragic event was further elaborated on by one of Lorne’s friends, who posted in a Metallica fan group on Facebook. The friend described how Lorne was carried out from the Snake Pit area on a stretcher and received immediate medical attention. Recalling Lorne as “the kindest soul,” the friend added, “We all called him Viking. He will be missed terribly! Please crank up a Metallica song, and raise a glass for the Viking.”

This somber incident occurred amidst Metallica’s M72 World Tour, which promotes their 2023 album, 72 Seasons. The tour features back-to-back performances in each city, with supporting acts including Mammoth WVH, Pantera, Ice Nine Kills, and Five Finger Death Punch. The band’s upcoming shows are scheduled for August 28th and September 1st in Seattle, Washington.
