Kelly Rowland Addresses Cannes Red Carpet Incident: ‘I Stood My Ground’

Kelly Rowland, star of the film “Mea Kulpa,” has spoken out about the recent altercation with a security guard at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. In an interview with the Associated Press, Rowland clarified her side of the story, asserting her boundaries and defending her actions.
“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it,” Rowland explained, addressing the incident that occurred during the premiere of “Marcello Mio” at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France on Thursday, May 23rd.
Kelly Rowland expressed frustration, noting discrepancies in how she was treated compared to others on the red carpet. “There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off,” she remarked.
Despite the tense exchange with the security guard on the Palais des Festivals staircase, Rowland remained steadfast. “I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground,” she affirmed.
The incident occurred amidst Rowland’s recent venture into acting, notably her role in Tyler Perry’s “Mea Culpa,” an erotic legal thriller released on Netflix in February. Rowland admitted feeling intimidated initially but embraced the challenge wholeheartedly.
“I remember thinking about everything that an erotic thriller possesses, and that made me very intimidated,” Kelly Rowland reflected. “And then I had a friend of mine who called me and he said, ‘You know, Kel, if it doesn’t scare you, what’s the purpose of doing it?'”

Encouraged by this perspective, Kelly Rowland embraced the role, crediting Perry and her co-star Trevante Rhodes for their support and collaboration. “Tyler was so amazing and instrumental in this whole process and [my co-star] Trevante was just a pleasure to work with. I was very blessed,” she acknowledged.
