Kathy Hilton is facing heavy backlash on social media for confusing singer Lizzo with actress Gabourey Sidibe.
Here is everything you need to know.
Kathy Hilton mistakes Lizzo for Gabourey Sidibe
Kathy Hilton recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live for their Wednesday night’s episode.
Hilton was shown a picture of Lizzo while she was playing a game called, ‘Will! Kathy! Know Them!?’. She participated alongside Andy Cohen and Crystal Kung Minkoff.
However, when Hilton was questioned whether she knew the About Damn Time singer, she replied by saying, ‘I feel like I do. Precious?’
Moreover, Cohen and Minkoff burst into laughter following the 63-year-old reality star’s answer. Regardless, some viewers claim that the slipup suggested slight racism.
Further, into the episode, we see Minkoff turning toward her friend most likely to try to diffuse the awkward situation. She says, ‘She is precious though, Lizzo is precious.’
Hilton responded with, ‘That’s what I call her.’ She added that for her Lizzo was ‘precious.’
It is important to note that Hilton also failed to recognize A-list celebrities such as musician Justin Timberlake and wrestler turned actor Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was most likely referring to Gabourey Sidibe’s role in the drama film titled Precious which was released in 2009. Sidibe bagged a nomination for a Golden Globe and Academy Award for her performance in the movie.
Lizzo fans react to Kathy Hilton’s blunder
Following the incident, many fans of Lizzo took to Twitter to share their frustration over Kathy Hilton’s comment.
Several users pointed out that Hilton should have just said she did not identify the image instead of saying those remarks.
One fan said that while Hilton’s intention might have been harmless, it did not justify labeling a plus-size Black woman as ‘precious’. It was actually an insult.
Some noted, ‘I get she’s ditzy and it’s funny at times but this was just rude & disrespectful. I can kind of see why Lisa Rinna was going so hard now.’
While another fan claimed that Hilton is ‘messed up.’ They added that while Lizzo always minds her business, some people turn her into a joke. They also added that Hilton’s remark was not ‘intentional’.
Regardless, many fans mentioned that there was absolutely nothing hilarious over Hilton naming the 34-year-old Grammy winner as precious.
