Actress Kate McKinnon opens up about the reason behind leaving Saturday Night Live.

Kate McKinnon revealed why she left Saturday Night Live

Kate McKinnon recently sat down with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest for an episode of the Live With Kelly and Ryan show, via ET.

During the interview, the actress shared the real reason behind exiting Saturday Night Live after being on the show for nearly a decade.

She said that her decision to leave the show was not easy.

McKinnon mentioned during the interview, ‘I thought about it for a very long time, and it was very, very hard.’

She further added, ‘All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ So, I did, I loved it, I had the best decade, and then I was just like, my body was tired, and I felt like it was time.’

Furthermore, McKinnon also disclosed that she will not watch Saturday Night Live as of yet despite her future in the industry remaining uncertain.

She said, ‘I don’t know what I will do. I don’t know that I can watch the show yet because it’s too emo because I miss everyone so much.’

The 38-year-old comedian has developed friendships with her cast members hence she is unsure about watching the show over the emotions it may bring.

She continued, ‘It’s my family. It’s too emo. So, I think I’m just going to take ‘The Bachelorette’ and watch it.’

Kate McKinnon joined Saturday Night Live back in 2012. She had bagged two Emmy Awards for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. 

Moreover, she is running for the title for a third time. McKinnon is nominated at the 74th Emmy Awards which is slated to take place on 12th September.

McKinnon is recognized for her portrayal of Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Justin Bieber, Lindsey Graham, and Ellen DeGeneres.

Rumors started floating around in May this year that McKinnon will not join the legendary sketch series for their 48th season. The news was later confirmed by the actress herself as she announced her departure from the show.

McKinnon bid goodbye with the finale episode of Season 47. She quit the long-running series alongside fellow cast members Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson.
