Jonathan Majors, who was recently dismissed from his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following allegations of misdemeanor against his former girlfriend, has voiced his disappointment over being replaced by Robert Downey Jr. Majors, found guilty of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment in December 2023, has expressed his love for his character, Kang, and his heartbreak over the transition. Despite the controversy surrounding his dismissal, Majors shared his feelings openly when approached by TMZ.

Jonathan Majors’ Response

Caught walking on the street, Jonathan Majors was asked by TMZ about his reaction to Downey Jr. taking over as the main antagonist in the MCU. “Yeah, heartbroken. Of course. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though,” Majors responded. When questioned about the fairness of Downey Jr. receiving another chance with Marvel after his own troubled past, Majors replied, “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love, and being allowed to work (his) art and be creative at that level. I didn’t really get that.”

Jonathan Majors also expressed his desire to reprise his role as Kang if given the opportunity. “Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants, then let’s roll. Hell yeah,” he added.

The Transition: Robert Downey Jr.’s Return

Robert Downey Jr., who played a pivotal role in launching the MCU with his iconic portrayal of Iron Man, is set to return to the franchise, albeit in a different capacity. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Downey Jr. would be playing the villainous Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in two upcoming Avengers films. These films, titled “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are known for their work on “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

Social Media Reactions

The news of this significant change has sparked a range of reactions from fans on social media. One user commented, “That ‘WOW’ and laugh said it all lol,” hinting at the unexpected nature of the casting change. Another user expressed frustration, writing, “They need to bring him back. Shit is a travesty.”

Some fans speculated on the possibility of Majors returning in the future, with one user noting, “He still is Kang; they are just delaying it a bit for storylines. You honestly think he would say that.. come on.” Another echoed this sentiment with a straightforward plea: “Bring Jonathon Majors back.”

The decision to replace Jonathan Majors with Robert Downey Jr. as the primary villain in the MCU marks a significant shift in the franchise’s direction. While Majors’ portrayal of Kang was well-received, the legal issues and subsequent fallout have led Marvel to pivot. Downey Jr.’s return, although not as Iron Man, brings a familiar face back to the forefront, generating both excitement and controversy among fans.

As the MCU continues to evolve, the dynamics of its character portrayals and the narratives they drive will undoubtedly remain a topic of intense discussion and anticipation. For Jonathan Majors, the door to future opportunities may still be ajar, depending on the franchise’s ongoing storylines and fan reception.
