Kenan Thompson, who has been a cast member of the NBC sketch comedy series since 2003, argues that capping it at 50 might not be a bad idea.
Is Kenan Thompson about to leave?
Kenan Thompson, the host of “Saturday Night Live,” has made hints that if producer Lorne Michaels leaves, he could think about leaving the programme. The surprising remark was made by Thompson, who has been on the programme for 20 years, during a podcast interview with Charlamagne tha God called “Hell of a Week.” According to rumours, the programme will stop after its 50th season because Mr. Lorne Michaels won’t continue hosting it after turning 80. Is that accurate? During t he podcast, Thompson was asked a question, to which he responded, “That’s the rumour, right? Okay, I must now begin to plan.”
Is NCB cutting the budget for the show?
With the exception of a five-year span in the middle of the 1980s, Michaels has been in charge of “Saturday Night Live” during its entire tenure. Given that 50 is a nice place to stop, Thompson added, “That rumour may have a lot of merit.” “Wow, what a fantastic gift. He will most likely be close to 80 years old by then, and you know, he is the one who has had an influence on everything. As a result, if someone were to try to fill his shoes, you know, it’d be a fantastic chance for NBC to save money also, you see what I’m saying? If [NBC] cuts the budget, you won’t be able to produce the same kind of show.
Therefore, it’s unfair to witness it essentially burn to the ground due to those limits. It might not be a bad idea to cap it at 50, he suggested. “You know, I think I’m committed to performing this show (SNL) until its 50th anniversary, which is in three years,” Canadian-born Thompson stated in December 2021. “I want to see that through, and I think that would be a great moment to depart. But … I don’t ever want the show to be subpar. I’m too invested in it. My life has been devoted to it. I’ll thus exert every effort to ensure that it continues.
