Here’s Why Chris Redd leaving Saturday Night Live

Chris Redd is the latest member to depart from NBC’s long-running sketch show.

Chris Redd exits Saturday Night Live

Chris Redd recently confirmed that he will not return for the 48th season of Saturday Night Live. He released a statement to announce the news.

He wrote in a statement, ‘Being a part of SNL has been the experience of a lifetime. Five years ago, I walked into 30 Rock knowing that this was an amazing opportunity for growth.’

Furthermore, the 37-year-old actor added, ‘Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever. I’m grateful to [creator] Lorne Michaels and to the entire SNL organization. From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you all enough.’

Redd’s name joins the list of veterans who have announced their exit from SNL ahead of its 48th season.

Longtime cast members Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson left the show after the end of the 47th season earlier this year in May.

Additionally, this month three other SNL comedians exited SNL. They included cast members Melissa Villaseñor, and Alex Moffat, along with feature comedian Aristotle Athari.

Moreover, Lindsay Shookus, the producer and talent chief at SNL also confirmed in August that he will not return for the show’s new season.

Subsequently, last week it was reported that NBC had hired four new cast members to join the late-night stalwart family. They are Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.

The aforementioned performers will start as featured players in Season 48 which is slated to premiere on 1st October.

Chris Redd joined Saturday Night Live in 2017 for its 43rd season. He was later promoted to repertory status in 2019 before they started filming for the 45th season of SNL.

During his time on the series, Redd went on to bag a Primetime Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics for the track Come Back Barack in 2018.

Furthermore, Redd was mostly recognized for impersonating Kanye West and Mayor Eric Adams. However, he performed several other characters as well.

Redd will next be seen headlining the HBO Max comedy special titled, Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This? It is expected to drop later this year.

He will also lend his voice to a key character in Broadway Video and Audible. He will further appear in Universal’s film Cyber Monday.
