What is NonVerbal Learning Disorder?
NonVerbal Learning Disorder NVLD is actually a disorder that’s considered somewhat similar to Asperger’s Syndrome. According to experts, in this type of disorder, people affected are good at verbal things like writing and reading. However, it affects the life where nonverbal things are to be used.
It mostly targets the affected person’s social cues and understanding abilities. This disorder doesn’t affects one’s talking with others. However, it doesn’t make them understand how others are thinking in a certain way. While there happens to be no cure for this disorder. Yet therapies for this type of disorder somewhat work well.
Chris Rock diagnosed with NVLD
It was only after his interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Chris Rock mentioned getting diagnosed with Non-Verbal Learning Disorder and its effects on his life. Rock revealed that one of his friends suggested to him to get tested as he was felt to be suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome.
Asperger’s syndrome is a kind of autism affecting the communication power of someone. Rock in h is interview revealed that to find the disorder he went for nine hours long testing. Later to which he found that he was suffering from NVLD. He said that all he understands are words. He also shared how he is dealing with his disorder.
Chris Rock is taking therapies for NVLD
While the comedian Chris Rock has been describing his experience with NVLD. He said he takes 7 hours therapies for the disorder once a week. He has been taking the therapies from two therapists. Additionally, while he is handling the disorder in his own way.
He has revealed that he has another activity involved in his life swimming. Moreover, his disorder came into the limelight just days after the comedian was punched by the actor Will Smith at the Oscars this year following a joke on Smith’s wife.
