Arlo parks, 21, wins Mercury Prize for ‘Collapsed in Sunbeams’ – Get Full Details

Arlo Parks, for “Collapsed in Sunbeams”, has won the Hyundai Mercury award. This was her debut album. Parks was awarded the Best British/Irish album of the year for her debut album. The panel of judges included reputed musicians, broadcasters, and journalists.

Earlier, the 21-year-old songwriter has won Brit Award as well. Judge Annie MacManus presented the award on the stage and said, “We chose an artist with a singular voice who uses lyrics of remarkable beauty to confront complex themes of mental health and sexuality, and connects deeply with her generation as she does so.” Thus, Parks felt obliged with the award and showed her gratitude towards her family and the team.

About the Mercury Prize

Arlo parks is one of the youngest artists to get the Mercury Prize. Though, Other artists who were awarded this prize in their early 20s include the Arctic Monkeys, Dave, and Ms. Dynamite. However, the youngest one is still Dizzee Rascal who won at the age of 19 years for Boy in Da Corner in 2013.

However, a total of 12 artists was nominated. Most of them were Black Britishers. This prize was introduced first in 1992. Additionally, it aims “to recognize and celebrate artistic achievement, provide a snapshot of the year in music and help introduce new albums from a range of music genres to a wider audience.”
