Adin Ross has become the latest streamer to voice his dissatisfaction with Samantha Rivers being awarded the title of Streamer of the Year at the 2024 Esports Awards. During a recent stream on Kick, Ross reacted to fellow Twitch star Asmongold’s comments regarding the situation, and expressed his own confusion over Rivers’ win. According to Ross, he wasn’t familiar with Samantha Rivers, and he made it clear that he wasn’t trying to be rude but genuinely didn’t know who she was.

While discussing the topic with his audience, Ross posed the question:
“So who the fk is RiversGG? I am not even trying to be disrespectful. I mean, I am not joking, I saw her on Twitter these past few days. Who the fk is this?”

Ross went on to say that despite Samantha Rivers being a two-time winner of the Streamer of the Year award, he believed that she was not widely recognized. He criticized award shows like the Esports Awards, claiming they don’t hold much value:
“So nobody knows who the fk this is and she won Streamer of the Year? Stop giving in to these fking award shows. They mean nothing.”

Adin Ross Advocates for IShowSpeed Over Samantha Rivers

The controversy surrounding Samantha Rivers’ win wasn’t limited to Adin Ross. After Rivers, a prominent Mexican streamer with the third-highest female following on Twitch at 6.3 million followers, claimed the Streamer of the Year title, there was significant backlash from certain corners of the streaming community. Much of the criticism came from the English-speaking segment, where fans believed that other streamers, notably IShowSpeed and Kai Cenat, deserved the award more.

One of the most viral reactions came from Twitch streamer Asmongold, who suggested during a recent stream that Samantha Rivers won the award primarily because she was a woman, calling it a “diversity pick.” His comments sparked intense debates across social media, and it was during one of these online exchanges that Adin Ross chimed in.

Ross agreed with parts of Asmongold’s take, adding his own criticism of the awards system. He expressed frustration that he, too, had never received recognition for his work during what he described as his prime, and lamented that other notable streamers had been overlooked:
“In my prime 2021, I never won sh*t, okay? Kai and Speed were going crazy this year too, I mean like, come on bro. Let’s be real chat, I’ve seen Speed all over my Twitter feed when he went to that Europe tour, everywhere bro.”

IShowSpeed Nearly Clinches the Title

According to official data from the Esports Awards, IShowSpeed was the runner-up in the voting tally for Streamer of the Year, while Kai Cenat finished in third place. Despite their massive followings and global recognition, neither streamer managed to secure the coveted award, a fact that continues to stir controversy within the community.

Adin Ross, like many others, feels that awards shows are increasingly disconnected from the reality of who is truly making waves in the streaming world. As the debate over diversity and recognition in the industry grows, it remains to be seen whether the Esports Awards and similar shows will make changes to their selection processes, or if they will continue to face pushback from high-profile streamers like Ross.
