A rookie San Antonio cop shot a 17-year-old at a McDonald’s parking lot which left him critically wounded.

Here is everything you need to know.

A teen is on life support after being shot back by a police officer

CBS reported that on the night of the shooting Erik Cantu was sitting in his car seemingly with a female companion in the parking lot of McDonald’s.

Moreover, Officer James Brennand arrived at the place after responding to a disturbance call in the area.

Brennand claimed that he became suspicious of Cantu’s vehicle as it was similar to the car that escaped his grip earlier that day.

Additionally, Brennand approached Cantu’s car and opened the door as he ordered him to step out of the car.

A startled Cantu responded by reversing his car which resulted in Brennand firing multiple shots at him through the window.

Meanwhile, Brian Powers, a lawyer for Cantu, updated on the teen’s condition during an interview with ABC News.

He said, ‘We thank you for the heartfelt thoughts on the status of Erik’s recovery. We will inform you that he’s still in critical condition and literally fighting for his life every minute of the day as his body has endured a tremendous amount of trauma.’

He stated, ‘Nothing that that officer did that night was in accordance with our training or our policies.’

Social media users react to the incident

The McDonald’s shooting has sparked outrage among social media users across the nation. They consider the incident as another example of endemic police brutality.

A user wrote, ‘So disturbing that they then charged this kid with felonies, after firing the officer and acknowledging he was wrong.’

Someone else chimed in saying, ‘This could have been my grandson. Enough is Enough. I am Praying for Erik Cantù & his family because this should have never happened. This man should have never been a cop. Stop handing out guns & badges to these cops to kill our children.’
