Rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson, has initiated legal proceedings against his former girlfriend Daphne Joy, following her allegations of rape against him earlier this year.
Filing a Defamation Lawsuit
On May 6, 50 Cent filed a defamation lawsuit against Daphne Joy in the Harris County District Court in Texas. The lawsuit, which seeks in excess of $1 million in damages, accuses Joy of making false and damaging claims against him. According to documents obtained by XXL, the lawsuit alleges that 50 Cent’s legal team had previously sent a cease-and-desist letter to Joy, urging her to retract her Instagram post where she accused the rapper of beating and raping her. Allegedly, Joy refused to retract the statement and instead demanded a substantial sum of money to remove the post, along with requesting 50 Cent to drop his custody suit for their son, Sire.
Response from 50 Cent’s Attorneys
In response to the lawsuit, 50 Cent’s attorneys issued a statement to XXL, condemning Joy’s actions. They accused Joy of interfering with the relationship between 50 Cent and his 11-year-old son by making false and malicious allegations against him. The statement also suggested that Joy’s actions may be influenced by her association with Sean “Diddy” Combs, insinuating that Combs may be backing Joy’s attack on 50 Cent.

50 Cent and Daphne Joy were in a relationship from 2011 to 2012 and share a son named Sire, born in September 2012. The recent legal dispute between the former couple arose after Joy was implicated in a lawsuit filed against Diddy by producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones in March. Following this, Joy publicly accused 50 Cent of abuse and sexual assault during their relationship, prompting 50 Cent to file for custody of Sire.
