Netflix unveiled a brand new trailer of The Sandman: Release Date, Cast, Synopsis, and much more

Netflix has officially confirmed the release date for the live-action adaptation of The Sandman in DC comics.

The fantasy drama is based on the Neil Gaiman comic book series of a similar name. 

Netflix ordered the first season back in June 2019 and the filming began back in August 2020. The production of the series wrapped up in October 2021.

The Sandman is set across hundreds of years and revolves around a titular character named Morpheus. He is captured during an occult ritual. After being imprisoned for over a century he finally escapes to rebuild his dream kingdom.

When is the release date of The Sandman?

Netflix announced the release date of The Sandman during their Geeked Week on 6th June.

According to the latest announcement, the long-awaited show is set to debut on the streaming platform on 5th August 2022.

The announcement was dropped at the end of the series’ full-length trailer. 

The brand new teaser displays Morpheus’ escape from captivity and gives us snippets of the chaos it will cause.

Who will feature in The Sandman?

Tom Sturridge will play as Morpheus, the king of dreams and ruler of the Dreaming. 

Sturridge is an English actor. He is a Tony nominated actor recognised for his performance in Being Julia and Like Minds.

Gwendoline Christie is to star as Lucifer, the ruler of Hell in the upcoming series.

She is famous for her role in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth.

Star Wars alum Mark Hamill will voice the character of Merv Pumpkinhead, a janitor in Morpheus’ realm The Dreaming.

Furthermore, we will see Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Patton Oswalt, and Stephen Fry in the series’ debut season.

Joely Richardson, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Niamh Walsh, and Kyo Ra are some of the supporting actors to feature in The Sandman.

Other cast members include Razane Jammal, Sandra James Young, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg have co-written the series. The three will also serve as executive producers with Heinberg coming on as showrunner. 

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television are the producers of the forthcoming series. 

The first installment will include ten episodes. Each episode has a budget of $15 million, making a total of $150 million for its initial season.
