Richard Dreyfuss and Miro Sorvino have been going through an unfortunate situation where they are flailing in the inept muddle of “Crime Story”. With so many problems it seems like their luck is playing really hard on them. First, they are thrown into a crisis mode and then the home robbery clearly proves what I said before.
Saban Films is releasing this movie in 10 U.S. cities on Friday. Adam Lipsius’ film was not action-ready as one can find. Half of the dialogues sound improvised haplessly and the voiceover narration is too not coming properly. This is what a crime-thriller surely doesn’t look like.
Moreover, the dysfunctional family drama has also failed among other things. When we are introduced to Dreyfuss’ retired mob boss Ben Myers, a salvage-job feel descends suddenly. Meanwhile, the medical personnel attended to him in the ambulance.
Later, the story begins with Ben shown senile wife Nan. Ignoring the suspicious van parked outside and the helplessness of his wife, Ben let her go to the restaurant he has Operated.
After completing his work, he came home. In his absence, the place has been plundered. All the money was looted and nothing was left. Although, he was relieved that his wife was safe.
However, she was scared of Ben when he started firing in the house which resulted in police involvement. In the surveillance, it was found that their people trespassed the house and they were clearly seen. He then spent all day tracking the people individually.
Despite the fact that Ben was near to seventy and had leukemia, he was struggling to find the goons. Soon, chasing the trail of violence, a homicide investigative cop was now providing chief security for some Congressman Billings.
There is a lot “Crime Story” tends to say but everything is so ill-articulated that it becomes really difficult to know what Lipsius is trying to say. And, in this case, the actors have completely failed to narrate what they were trying to pretend. Some actors manage to maintain an aura of professional competence while others fail to do so.
Sorvino has stressed a lot on conviction in the script by crying at every moment be it an opportunity or not. Nicki is a strong-minded girl who takes tough decisions.
The dialogues like “We are dying on the inside”, and “That’s life” show cluelessness that some figures having betrayed each other in every way, have ended in the film with h reconciliation hug.
However, the film looks pretty good but you might say that DP John DeFazio’s approach is a distraction and the story really lost its essence. But the other tech and design contributions were really good were effective.
