Sofia Carson Defends Her Netflix Movie 'Purple Hearts' From Backlash
Sofia Carson is speaking out about some of the backlash to her new Netflix movie, Purple Hearts.
The new movie, which debuted earlier this month on the streamer, has been getting a lot of love from fans – and also been called out by some too.
Together with director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, Sofia admits that she gets why there is some backlash to the film.
“I hope that people understand that in order for characters to grow, they need to be flawed in the beginning.
So we very much intentionally created two characters that had been bred to hate each other,” Elizabeth told Variety.
“They are flawed at the beginning and that was intentional. In order for the red heart and the blue heart to kind of turn purple, you have to have them be kind of extreme.”
Sofia added, “Why I fell in love with the movie is that it’s a love story but it’s so much more than that. It’s two hearts, two worlds apart, who are raised to hate each other.”
