Saints signed Jake Luton

The New Orleans Saints have officially added quarterback Jake Luton to their roster, acquiring him from the Panthers' practice squad. ESPN's Field Yates reported this development.

Luton's college football experience includes playing for Idaho and Oregon State. He had three starts with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, where he threw 2 touchdown passes and 6 interceptions in 110 attempts.

The Saints, despite holding a 2-1 record, face uncertainty in their quarterback unit following a close 18-17 loss to the Packers.

The starting quarterback, Derek Carr, suffered an AC joint sprain during the game and was replaced by backup Jameis Winston.

In addition to the quarterback situation, Jake Haener, a fourth-round pick from Fresno State, received a six-game suspension starting September 6 due to a failed drug test.

Taysom Hill remains part of the team but is primarily utilized in a versatile role rather than as a conventional quarterback.
