Mindy Kaling Opens Up About Deacon Phillippe's Screen Debut in 'Never Have I Ever'

Mindy Kaling is opening up about how Deacon Phillippe got involved with the third season of Never Have I Ever.

Speaking with Variety at premiere, the 42-year actress revealed that Deacon‘s involvement in the series happened after a conversation she had with his mom, Reese Witherspoon

Deacon plays Parker, a friend of Devi’s new love interest Des and a member of her school’s rival debate team.

Mindy says that she added Deacon to the cast after Reese told her that he had an interest in acting.

“We were breaking the season and there was this role that seemed like it would be perfect for Deacon,” Mindy shared.

“He’s obviously so talented and he’s great-looking, and we just thought he would be great and he was excited to come and do it.

She added that Deacon just wanted “to learn” on the set, and “he’s been raised by two very successful actors. He’s not wary or anything.”
